Notice how it doesn't say +1/+! or -1/-1 counter, it just says counter.

Lorwyn Elves are such assholes. Killing creatures because they deem them TOO UGLY TO EXIST. I do like how it subverts the normal elf tropes of them being all high and mighty and perfect by making them evil, though.
