Question: Does attacking count as tapping, as the creature becomes "tapped?" Because I'd think that would make this guy a bit too powerful. The fact that he's not more well-known makes me lean towards no.

this guy is a card drawing machine in a merfolk deck with all of its creatues' tap abilities. you could even equip him with paradise mantle to ensure an extra card every turn. After you add in the bonus from the likes of lord of atlantis and merrow reejerey, the body is nothing to scoff at either.
PS they look like hooves to me too

I'm kind of surprised not to see any mention of Aura of Dominion here; it's like the two cards were made for each other. "{1} - draw a card"

Its got some great combos and in a supported tribe. Archivist is more reliable for drawing cards on its own.
