First reaction: too few drawbacks to this creature for what you get. So what if you need to sacrifice a creature each turn? Unless it gets destroyed (which is harder than normal due to its high toughness and blackness) it will probably win the game for you in a turn or two, and if it does get destroyed you can sac it for ten life. Gaining life for the sacrifice is like a slap in the face for the player who doesn't use this card. I'm not saying the card is too good, because I honestly don't know, but its percieved power seems to be too much, at least for me. Too 'safe' really is what I would say.

Cards like this annoy me, because there is no reason NOT to play them. Think about it: if you were a casual deck-builder playing a green/black deck, why wouldn't you play this card? I think that it is important for cards not to be auto-include because if every card were like that then it would be almost impossible to choose what cards to put into a deck. Sure, sure, you co... I dont see how this monster would physically be able to eat itself. Works well with Creakwood Liege. Get a 12/12, gain three life each turn and Doomgape still has trample. This is why i actually bought a few sealed decks from morningtide

He reminds me of King Dok from the Bone series. I don't know why.

I'm gonna say it since no one else has(wow):

Nom-nom-nom-nom-nom-Nom-nom-nom-nom-nom-Nom-nom-nom-nom-nom.

And that's all you really need to know.

Dear Wizards of the Coast,

I would like more cards with "Doom" in the title, please. I would consider it a personal favor if any of those cards are also ridiculously oversized underprotected the-whole-table-laughs-when-it-hits-play mega-monsters with highly evocative art and enjoyable flavor text, but, really, that's much too much to ask, and to be honest I'm plenty satisfied with fun mediocre-even-in-casual-play junk like Doom Cannon. (And I think it'll be d*mn hard to top the name Doomgape.)

However, I have a small quibble. Next time you all decide to charge ahead and be bold and print a card this cool, could you please give it the Legendary supertype, so that I can play it as my commander in EDH?

Many thanks! 5+/5.

P.S. It's really not too late to bring back doom counters. Just saying.

P.P.S. Doomgape + Enduring Renewal may not be the most efficient combo in Magic, but it's one of the most beautiful and naturalistic.... (see all)

I think Horror is a more suitable creature type than Elemental.
It's coming to eat you for god's sake.
