Stroke is fine in a combo deck with insane amounts of mana, but if you're just playing a land each turn and passing, it becomes expensive to get cards with when you need them.
This card is great when you have a big dumb wall to sit behind.

"I LOVE Braingeyser, Stroke of Genius, and Mind Spring, and it's nice to see a reprint of a card that lets you draw cards, that isn't banned by the idiotic DCI."
None of the cards mentioned are presently banned or restricted, nor were they at the time of your post (3/15/10).

A close relative of Braingeyser. Though Braingeyser is a little better because you can mill your opponent.

Yes, Opportunity is an instant... but still, you pay 4uu and you draw 4 cards. Mind Spring can do that. It can also do more or less, depending on your current situation. Tidings and/or Concentrate, of course, would be a more direct comparison... and it's true that you come off better with Tidings if you want to spend exactly 5 mana or Concentrate if you want to spend exactly 4... but the Xuu cost adds so much more versatility, no?
Stroke of Genius is broken good and we won't even start comparisons with Stroke!

An Instant that lets you draw 4 cards isn't so great if you only have 3 in your Library and you win con is the last one. This won't deck you in that situation. I LOVE Braingeyser, Stroke of Genius, and Mind Spring, and it's nice to see a reprint of a card that lets you draw cards, that isn't banned by the idiotic DCI.
