A solid card in any self-respecting casual esper deck. great for picking off annoying 1/1 creatures like deathgreeter. in my opinion, the best battlemage.

The best battlemage for {B}, {T}: ability. Great for killing small 1/1s and a great combat trick in general.

I'm extremely hesitant to call the Grixis Battlemage's abilities "amazing" - I would rate the Jund Battlemage first, and Esper second.

I don't think this one is best battlemage and all, it's white ability is non creatures only, and its second ability only picks off 1/1's or allows an exchange of a weaker blocker and a stronger attacker, something other cards can already do. In general I'd say it's jund, bant, naya, grixis, and esper, from best to worst battlemage in that order.

Bant Battlemage fits in to her environment better. Since you're only attacking with one creature a turn with Exalted, both her abilities can be useful. Whereas in an Esper deck, only the , ability is useful here. The Grixis Battlemage is great for discarding things with Unearth but lacks a second good ability unless they're down to one creature, Jund Battlemage is great for Devour because of the token generation but also has an underwhelming second ability and the Naya Battlemage has two good abilities but neither of them are that amazing with the "power 5 or greater" theme. I wouldn't call this the best, but they're all good.

bah, her effects are weak for an alara battlemage, but that might just be because i'm spoiled by the Grixis battlemage's amazing effects. still, she counts for something being that she's an artifact creature... and that means that she's not that bad of a pick up for esper or artifact decks

doesnt fit so much in the esper theme, but the 2nd ability to get rid of the 1/1s are pretty fun

can the white ability be used to prevent damage directed to your planeswalker?
