Hmm yes yes, math out the mana cost. Until you realize that that number is entirely up to the developers and they could make it whatever number they wanted.

I like how you can skeletonize some gigantic dragon (with other damage sources) and still get a measly 1/1 skeleton for your efforts.

I don't quite understand the flavor here. I mean, I know what they were going for, but I just don't see the relation between a normal looking burn spell requiring only Red colored mana to cast and, not only reanimating the dead creature's corpse, but mind controlling it as well. Necromancery has nothing to do with Red. I think the mana cost should've included Black. This would've made more sense flavorwise and could've been used to reduse the overall cost by 1 because of the more specific mana reqirements to cast, increasing playability. You'd only use it in a deck that utilized both Red and Black mana anyway.

I only got to play this one on the original DotP in Nicol Bolas' deck. It was really enjoyable when used successfully, though. It has such a unique and creative affect that it's a shame to see this lose usage because of simplistic overcosting. It is supposed to be uncommon after all.

A cost of 2BlackRed would've been more appropriate in my opinion.

Possibly one of the coolest cards ever.
Would love to see a slightly better version.
Hell, I'd settle for a reprint in draft ANY DAY.

Like everyone (lol) has pointed out so far, 5cmc is just too much for the effect, otherwise... this card is cool as hell.
They could have gotten away with {2}{B}{R}, but I guess they needed more monocolor-playable spells or something.
