I hate this guy for screwing up any inclusion of him in EDH.

One of the few creatures where it's actually a kindness and a good thing that it's ability says "Activate only once each turn". Feasableness wise, I just don't see it being good to be activating this more than once a turn. If your deck is THAT Gold, it can do better things with Green and Black than to cast Red creatures. BUT, lets say you're a Red-based Jund deck running pretty much 4 Savage Lands and maybe only 5-6 other lands that produce colored non-Red mana? THEN this guy is a really cool option as an early drop to help you fight through the middle game and get to the end game where you slam down Hellkite Overlord.
It's NOT an ability I'd want to be tempted into trying to activate as a mana sink, because the hoops you have to go through for that aren't gonna end up worth it, but it most definitely IS worth it just like this, and maybe throw in some Rancor in your deck, some other this-and-thats, and make a nice Budget... (see all)

This guy T2
Grafted Wargear T3, swing for 8
If they kill him, attach it to your Kor Duelist or Goblin Gaveleer
Piston Sledge and the wellsprings in the same deck make for good times.

Don't be fooled by the activated ability. Viashino Slaughtermaster is perfectly usable in a monored deck. Just cast him/her on turn two, then cast three Brute Forces on turn three, swing for 20.
