How is that a 1/1?!

This guy looks like a re-usable Black Lotus every turn in Red and Green. I can definitely see, though I didn't play back then, how Erhnam and Burn 'em really worked. They printed a Giant in Shadowmoor that did something similar, you could sac a Mountain for 3 dmg or sac a Forest for GGG, but the Giant was already incredibly expensive; no where near the utility of this amazing 1-drop!

@NeoKoda: Orcish technology, obviously. You can probably prod it with a stick and it will fall down.

It says something when your giant buzzsaw-wielding mecha can be easily thwarted by a Sanctuary Cat.

Pair the Orcish Lumberjack with Harvest Wurm to get five mana from a tapped, sacrified, replayed, and tapped forest. The 'Jack is a great accelerator!

Decent mana accel, three additional mana at the cost of a land on a 1/1 one-drop is great!
It's generally a whole lot better than Goblin Clearcutter since this is most important in the early game.
If it's in your opening hand you might play a mid-game spell for five mana for on turn two for instance, or two 3/3 Coal Stokers and another spell for three mana, which might bring you more forward despite the fact that you'll have one less mana on the subsequent turns.

This Orc is also hundred times better than Mana Seism most of the time: The Seism would require saccing 6 lands to get more mana than the Lumberjack. That means unless you can certainly win by saccing 5 more lands, this seriously isn't a good idea.
If you are looking for a related card in a BlackGreen deck, i advise using Squandered Resources.

This guy was a "kill me or lose" card when he came down on turn 1. The time frame for this was back when Erhnam Djinn was the best 4 drop around (and one of the best creatures in general). Not only did you get rid of forests that the opponent might forest-walk on, but the turn after Erhnam hit, you could either slap down a crippling Winter Orb (and still have this guy ready to let you cheat the Orb), or you could simply tap a Forest and a white source (like Birds of Paradise) for Armageddon (which kind of invalidates drawbacks to both this card and to Erhnam).

The other terrifying early play was this guy on turn 1, Tinder Wall on turn 2 = turn 2 Shivan Dragon.

This was a really, really crazy card in it's day. Note that mana denial strategies let you have a chance against the dominant Necropotence decks of the day, whose pro-white knight... (see all)

If this card was blue or black, sacrificed islands or swamps, and produced blue mana and/or black mana, this card would cost 50 dollars each, not 10 cents for a play set.
