I like that in case of emergency, you can still play it for X = 0 on your own spells (or opponents), simply for the sake of scrying and hope to dig up what you are looking for.

@XDaragoX - Like capitalR said, Power Sink is simply better at shutting people down. And I kind of prefer Broken Ambitions in a lot of deck since I tend to play mill anyway.

Actually, this Card is freakin´awesome. First, its a mini-ponder and a mini-mana-leak in one card, which is awesome by itself (it is always good to have many cards in one, just look at cruel ultimatum. Or wouldn´t you play a RR Deal 6 damage Doble-Lightningbolt? You would.) but the fact that you can (usually) make X just high engough to prevent your opponent from paying it.

5/5

I love blue counter spells where you can work the name into some witty phrase. Other examples include cancel, complicate, confound, dismiss and so on

This might just be the best "counter target spell unless its controller plays X" counterspell out there.

I enjoy how in a pinch, as long as there is a legal target on the stack, this is also {U} Scry 2..a pretty darn good card when you need it most.

This+ a couple charged up Saprazzen coves, nothing will get past you!
Throw in a couple of Call To Mind's and Venser, Shaper Savant's and the fun never end's!

The Scrying is an added bonus!

@ZirilanoftheClaw - You've never really played against a blue control deck, have you? 9 times out of 10, you're trying to sneak something through the wall of counters; if your opponent Sinks your bait spell and you don't pay off the mana, you're screwed (if you do pay the mana, you either spent a huge amount on a semi-useless spell or it gets a hard counter).

That said, this is somewhat useful as a counter, but it also can be used as a pseudo-Preordain if necessary.
