goes well with Rain of Filth and Balance.

6 Creatures you DON'T want your opponent topdecking with this guy:
Avacyn, Angel of Hope
Akroma, Angel of Wrath
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Rakdos the Defiler
Griselbrand
Desolation Angel (use mana-floating tricks to pay the kicker)
there's ''better'' ways to cheat things into play if you were just going to use Progenitus or Emrakul, Aeons Torn or Blightsteel Colossus. But this set of cards gives you some nice flavor for your trouble. :)

This guy was AWESOME in my Jund Warp World deck. Running ramp into a turn 5 Warp World was absolutely terrifying for my opponents. If he landed and swings, my opponents have to debate to even let him through and let me screw myself over or hit a game changing bomb.
My deck ran 2 of these guys with 4 Bogardan Hellkite and two Emrakuls. If I see Emrakul with Hellcarver's ability, I get to cast him for free along with any of the dragons I'd hit.

One of my favorite Demons! The only *real* use I've found for him was a Demon tribal deck relying on ramping/cheating Demons (of course!) Using him with Living Death effects and then hastey effects to attack quickly net me many a turn 3-4 win in epic fashion! (Who can be mad when you lose to 8 6/6s and a horde of imps pounding your face!?)
If it's not obvious, I'd get him out using an Apprentice Necromancer, Shallow Grave, or rituals, swing wildly and good things would happen. Via dredge cards or buried alive I'd have other fatties in the GY. The hope was that he'd run into those mass resurrection effects and net me huge numbers of demons; which happened often! :D:D:D:D::::D

Considering putting him in my UB mill deck. Would be great to be able to cast tons of Mind Funeral type cards with his ability

One day, I'm going to build a Hellcarver deck. It will almost always lose, but when it wins, it will be spectacular.
It will use an innocuous Vedalken Orrery to cast Doomsday in response to the Hellcarver's ability going on the stack.
I will then leave in my library:
A counterspell just in case.
Doubling Season
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
Omniscience
Searing Wind or Sorin's Vengeance
Goodbye, anyone and everyone.

This is my favorite card in Magic.
First off, a 6/6 flyer for 6, while nothing special, is on the curve and works nicely. His ability, though, screams finisher, and in the most Pyrrhic manner possible.
My favorite combo in the game is to cast Doomsday before swinging with him, and then stack the deck in favor of destroying your opponents. Worldfire, followed by successive burn spells, will end the game.
But even if you can't stack the deck, the odds that you'll play something useful off of his attack are relatively high.
I know it isn't the best card in the game, but it is the card that I built my first deck around. It's a cheap mythic rare that makes the game fun and speaks to the combo lover in all of us.
5/5
