Looks like there's a similar creature in every color for Zendikar block: Gnarlid Pack, Skitter of Lizards, Apex Hawks, Quag Vampires, etc. All mediocre, but decent draft picks.

Underestimated... definitely. Combined with Spreading Seas, you get a strong threat that can beat someone up pretty quickly. Merfolk Sovereign will help end it even faster.

Pretty mediocre at first glance, but the fact that both of its creature types have significant tribal support gives it a little more potential.

Strictly better than Root Water Commando.

It's basically a really lame hydra, there are better merfolk, and better soldiers. A 5 mana 3/3 with the kicker with no abilities is very bad, and a 7 mana 4/4 even worse. There are better fillers as well.

Decent Limited filler. That's about it, though.
