This is a wonderful card, one of those designs that's flavorful, creative, and fun to build around all at once. There have been numerous attempts at above-the-curve demons since Persy's printing (I'm looking at you, Rakdos, Lord of Riots), he remains one of the more iconic creatures in recent memory and completely epitomizes Black.
Easy 5/5. It wrecks face and the drawback is easily circumvented, especially with all the sac/removal effects in B, some of which are even synergistic (e.g. Cabal Therapy). It's always fun to bring your opponent to a negative life total, too.

I want this card. I could make some stupid fun decks with it.

@Kaleidostorm: I assume the game goes on forever, until someone loses control of his Persecutor. If both players have run out of cards and neither has the means of destroying his/her Persecutor I assume it's a draw.

@Diamondragan: Are you suggesting Abyssal Persecutor and Heartless Summoning are as overpowered and unfun as Sinkhole, Necropotence, and Dark Ritual?
I agree that a 5/5 "Persecutor" card for would be hideously overpowered and unfun, but putting a Heartless Summoning into your deck will not transform your Persecutors into that card - you have to cast the enchantment first. You'll probably want four Summonings, what do you do when you draw extras? What happens to your low drop creatures? Do you destroy them all when you cast Summoning, or do you restrict yourself to creatures with toughness two or more? Do you just try to play without any small creatures? What's your backup plan if you don't draw a Summoning? What will you do when your opponent sides in enchantment removal in game two?
Abyssal Persecutor and Heartless Summoning are an interesting puzzle to solve, and they're not unfun to play aga... (see all)
