Abyssal Persecutor + High Market = You win the game...

This card was good with the old combat rules - sac your creature in response to combat damage for extra life. It's the same reason Diamond Valley was good; this just produces mana too.

It's a land that also functions as a sacrifice outlet..sometimes you want stuff to go to the graveyard...

This land has many potential uses, such as Savra, Queen of the Golgari, Grave Pact or even just using it in response to someone stealing a potential game ending fatty or keeping them from getting it back. I run one in every EDH deck for a just in case, and I beleive it's worthy of rare status simply because it's a FREE sack outlet.

There are better sacrifice outlets, though. My favorite would be Goblin Bombardment. Only requires 1 colored mana of the two, but it doesn't eat your land drop for the turn. If the color is the issue, consider Claws of Gix.

Awesome for responding to Terror, Incinerate and such.

If your deck has very forgiving colored mana needs, then why not? Sacrifice outlets can come in handy sometimes.

Well, I linked this card to False Prophet, as they combo for an instant speed Final Judgment. :)
Let's not forget the many red card that can take control of enemy creatures for one turn.

According to the flavourtext, there's no such thing as darksteel.
