Note the snow! This art was commissioned for the Ice Age dual lands, before they were dropped due to being broken. It was reused because the original artwork's file got corrupted.

The story behind why the art changed:

This is beautiful! I love these classics. I wish I had some. The flavor of these cards is amazing!

Found one of these in a ten cent bin in a collectables store. I have pretty good luck.

This is a great land... one was in my very first starter way back when.
All of the original dual lands are among the most universally useful cards ever printed.
No complaints here.
However, I do take issue with this being the #1 rated card.
It's top 10, for sure.
#1?
NO.
EDIT: That's *much* better, but it's still rated higher than Black Lotus, Mox Ruby, Mox Emerald, Tolarian Academy... wtf?

The logic between these duel lands usually makes sense: Tropical Island (Tropical is usually about trees/forests, island = island), Volcanic Island (Volcano is clearly red and mountainous, island is... well, island)
But seriously, if you were to ask me what Plateau was, I wouldn't know. Mountain plains? the art makes sense, but... you know?

Nothing on top but a buck and a mop... and an illustrated book about birds.
