For just (2), you can cast Sun Droplet instead. From then on, it will freely give you 1 life for each turn (at least 2 per untap phase) as long as you're taking damage.

It is a pity that a card of such awful power lost its claim to fame: the only card that can prevent the loss of life. I understand the errata, but it still disappoints me.
