Do you guys realize that if you use a Helm of Obedience with this, you will instantly remove your opponent's entire library from the game, even if you only pay 1 mana for X in the Helm's activation cost? Go ahead, check out the rulings on Helm of Obedience on the gatherer.

Basically, Leyline of the Void + Helm of Obedience is another version of the infamous Painter's Servant + Grindstone combo... except that your opponent's library is actually remove from the game ("exiled" as they say now) instead of put in the graveyard. Yikes.

the helm of obedience combo with this is just deadly

however, i don´t run this combo, no matter how efficient it can be - to be able to stop others from using their gy as a second hand is pretty nice too, but this also stops you from being able to reanimate their creatures or whatever yourself, and i just love my puppeteer clique too much to trade it for this

all in all, a pretty nice card, but as long as you don´t run the helm of obedience combo, it´s rather pretty useless, imo - and the helm combo is actually already pretty known by many players, ie. if you drop this leyline on turn 0, then you also really should hurry up to get that helm in your hand, since it pretty much makes you an enemy #1

idk, it just doesn´t really fit to my style - i rather try to build up a good defense and mana base, but at the same time try to stay calm and let the others do their thing, without trying to disturb them much, until i get my combos in my hand - but this card just makes you a treat from tu... Leyline of the Void: the leyline so nice, they printed it twice.

@Llian: It's just you: the change was simply one of terminology. There was no functional weight to the 'dies' change.
Here's an article which discusses, among other things, the changeover: https://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=mtg/tcg/magic2012/mechanics

This art is wayyyy better. Hoser, combo card, good art. I've loved it since I found it.

That said, this is almost mandatory sideboard in legacy and vintage, especially for black. Benefits of this over other graveyard hate is:
-Turn 0
-Is black (so you can exile it to Unmask)
-Causes no tempo loss (no mana cost if you use the leyline ability)
-Doesn't hit your own graveyard (this is conditionally good)
-Uncounterable (if using the leyline ability)
-It's out of your hand, so it dodges a t1 duress or similar

This means you play the game just like you would, but your opponent has to play around your hate card immediately. It dodges Abrupt Decay, Inquisition of Kozilek, and a variety of other cards.

I've tried to make my legacy sideboard work with Planar Void, but it's too conditional and the tempo loss is staggering for being a 1-drop. The potential to have Ichorid/aut... (see all)
