DIE! Die die die die DIE!!!!!!
Spikes, have you guys got any super efficient removal for me? Dismember for {1} against this guy is a bad idea :(

Four life doesn't really do anything in a beatdown deck... It is nice that an opponent making you discard has this creature come into play and they did make it not broken by having the "opponent" clause on there. Card is pretty good but there are many cards much better.

This guy is friggin' BEAST! I'm adding 3 of him in my Beast tribal deck. He's like Thragtusk's more affordable cousin. LOL

No downside to this card to this card really, pretty great anti-discard ability and the 4 life lets you take a hit or two.

The discard hate is quite nice but the life gain is actually extremely handy in grindy matchups. It's tough to choose between him and Loxodon Smiter; as they shore you up against different things. The fact that this guy isn't vulnerable to Abrupt Decay is one of my favorite reasons to use him.
I think people who compare him to Thragtusk are missing the point. This guy's whole purpose is color hate against many of the best spells ever printed (Hymn, Lily, Bolt, Decay.) If this guy lands for free, it's win/win; if they side out their discard, it's also win/win; you play uninterrupted.

In casual modern play, it annoys the crap out of me to play against literally the same 8 decks over and over again when there are limitless possibilities (which is fine in Tournaments, but casual? come on). When I started playing MTG in 1996, there was such a thing as creativity, which was part of the fun. My favorite thing about this card is how it hoses so many "net decks". Let's list what this card hoses:
Discard/Rack
Jund/Liliana of the Veil - killing Liliana with Obstinate Baloth is one of my favorite plays in MTG
Burn (especially those playing haste creatures)
Tribal (especially goblins)
Zoo
Being fairly resistant to undercosted removal is also quite nice. Also quite easy to get three-for-ones (discarded by liliana, blocks and kills tarmagoyf, lightning bolted). An absolute 4-of in my sideboards, and some maindecks.
