I actually really like it because it can either be a giant wall or a giant sword depending on the situation. a bit expensive but can be really useful :P

6 for a 0/7: terrible. For a 1/6, 2/5, 3/4, 4/3, 5/2, or a 6/1, terrible. Hacing options makes it almost reasonable, but it's still bad.

the original text is easier to understand than oracle text.... when they try to update old cards like this with mechanics they never reprinted, the oracle text usually sounds drastically different than originally intended.
What sounds easier to understand: Choose a number between 0 and 7; Shapeshifter's power is equal to the last chosen number and its toughness is equal to 7 minus that number.
OR
Shapeshifter's power and toughness add up to 7?
