why is this rated so low? 1B and you get to discard two, yeah you cant choose but i mean your opponent wouldnt put those cards in his deck just for nothing right?

IN SUMMARY
Cannot see hand
They choose the Card
1 card is irreverent, equal chance of hurting or helping them. (If you could see there topdeck or if they cast ponder, then it would be a relevant ability.)
Wheres the card advantage? (Your spending mana & loosing a card in your hand so they can choose to ditch there weakest link.)
Compare to all the other discard spells. This is one of the weakest ones by far. Not everyone plays blue, but I must admit its a very strong response to Ponder, or anything else that involves top deck management. In standard I would main deck Despise and put this in my sideboard for control decks. Its just to weak of a spell against every other deck.

This card might not let you scout out ahead, but at the same time, if they have anything in their hand, something will be going to the graveyard, unlike a lot of other Sorcery speed discards that have the potential to just fizzle out. Hell, this one hits two cards, and can brutalize people relying on the top of their deck. It's like the absolute bane of Magus of the Future.

Mediocre; but it hoses tutors/harbingers, is card neutral, and that's about it lol.
Still, it works against tutoring combos so it may have a place somewhere.

I think the real argument here is this, if you had the choice between this and Duress you would choose Duress. You wouldn't need to use this as well as, as that would be eight one mana single card discard spells. You *might* split 2/2 but I think that would just put you in situations were you would just prefer the one you didn't have at the time.

If you manage to get quite lucky (luck happens more in Casual games, where people's decks are sometimes less cutthroat and there is more room for every player to have bad luck, which is the same as their opponent having good luck), well....this DOES get TWO cards instead of one.
It's a very bad Hymn to Tourach, almost.
No, you should never try to use it as Hymn to Tourach even at FNM. A game more Casual than FNM, though? Yeah, it MIGHT just work out better than it has a right to. :)

Open your minds a little folks. Every card has a home. Quit comparing this to Duress. It serves a totally different purpose. First of all this is good in reanimator. Being able to discard your 8 drop then mill a card for a chance at another fatty hitting the bin is premium. Second of all, it always hits, which is what some decks need (*Cough* Dedicated discard, Liliana's Caress) in decks like that, Duress and Thoughtseize suck because they have a high chance of missing. Mill one is just gravy. People overlook it. If they are running two win conditions and I happen to mill one of them, their chances of now drawing it have been cut in half. Take them horse blinders off.
Beautiful artwork!!! 5/5 to help put this where it belongs (4/5)
