Combine this with Platinum Angel, Mycosynth Lattice, and Darksteel Forge.
Your life total can't change, you can't lose the game, all permanents are artifacts, and all artifacts are indestructable. It's a (near) perfect defense. The primary downside would be -1/-1 counters.
Toss in a Mirrorworks and you can double each card quickly for a better defense.

Seems more balanced than the platinum angel. Maybe I just hate that card...

"Sooo. . . technically this makes Necropotence unplayable and Oath of Lim-Dûl playable. Crazy, huh?"
You just end up sacrificing this guy under Oath of Lim-Dul, along with all your other permanents; It doesn't prevent damage.
@ Leshrac: That is totally counterintuitive, though I see from the oracle rulings on Platinum Emperion it's also correct.

RE: "If your opponent has no removal or alternate win conditions. You win the game."
I guess my feeling is that if your opponent builds a deck that has no removal or alternate win conditions and you aren't dead by the time you play this...you probably didn't need to play this anyway. And if you *need* this to win the game against such a deck...it's probably wise you not play with lighters or sharp objects.
It should read: "Tap 8 lands you control and two lands target opponent controls, discard Platinum Emperion from your hand: target opponent discards a card. Play this ability only as a stupidity."
I'll enjoy seeing my opponents play this. Just for the expression on their faces when they find out that the end result is they tapped 8 lands and we each discarded a card.

this card + platinum angel + 2 Privileged Positions + some well placed withstand deaths (to stop Elspeth and Judgemens) = you win lol

Being an 8/8 for is about the only thing this has going for it. It's not good against infect and it makes it so that you can't pay life for mana.
