I play this in every aggresive deck I try in standard. It just fits wherever. It's the cheapest blocker to kill Mirran Crusader. It hits for 3 and hardly gets killed. Indeed in my illusions deck, sometimes he's the target to oblivion ring rather than my transformed Insectile Aberration. That makes me think "you're doing no wrong playing it"

First Strike is a very nice ability in Limited so I see this being a very high pick. I mean how can you not love a 3/1 first strike for 2.

There are not many 2 drops that can wield O-Naginata unassisted, and this guy is a beast with it.
Phyrexian mana creatures fit nicely into decks with equipment and prototype portal.

It's kind of baffling that no one has mentioned Ballyrush Banneret. Two on the board, in addition to a Solider lord or two, and this becomes Pay two life, get a monster on the board. Nasty.
