Blue already had a perfectly good wacky non-Merfolk tribal in Homarids. Salamanders are pretty non-threatening in my experience. Except the poisonous ones, and even those are only poisonous if you eat them. A lobster on the other hand can pinch your toes off. Still, variety is good, I suppose.

If they're going to go the goofy sea creature route yet again for blue, I would have preferred that they bring back homarids. Lobsters have been repeatedly demonstrated in market research to capture the imagination more effectively than salamanders.

Never underestimate vanillas. They serve as much needed meatshields, are the perfect targets for sacrificing, are a good way to encourage your opponent to blow their defensive spells on so a super creature can enter unhindered, and can become effective attackers out of no where with any number of buffs. A toughness of 4 is nice for defense, seeing as not many creatures attack with strong enough power.
nevertheless, i can only give it a 2/5, because one simply expects more from a 'cuthroat' of any kind, and the flavor text falsely hinted at the rise of the salamanders (which is particularly disappointing because salamanders are awesome!)

Why did they not just make this another Surrakar? I've been wanting to run Surrak tribal for freaking ever.

Let's propose abilities for vanilla creatures in core sets from now on!

If Giant Spider is good enough for Green then this is good enough for Blue.
