@strigen, I think this is actually a mirror card to fecundity. The animal dying looks like the skeleton in the art for fecundity. How neat.

One less mana or a cantrip (Though that would be a lot of different effects on one card) would have made this very powerful indeed. As it stands I have been toying with this in my infect deck, but the only time I have found myself prefering it over grim affliction (Also great flavor text and art) has been when I am facing decks that fool around with +1/+1 counters or on splinterfright. I threw in some go for the throat and Doom Blade and found that that mix worked just as well.
