If any card screamed "refuge in audacity," it would be this card.

Might be fun in a lich style deck. Of course you can bid arbitrarily high life, it's not like it would kill you!

I've found this quite useful for burn. If you've got a bunch of direct damage in your hand, you can trick your opponent into bidding themselves dead quite easily (and if you're targeting the right spell, then you win by stopping it anyway if they don't bite)

What is the intended play of this card in multiplayer? It's possible a third player could want to bid life to counter the spell, but the first sentence seems to suggest this is not allowed, while "each player" suggests it might be.

This happened in an EDH game.
A: I'm gonna Genesis Wave for alot.
B: I'm gonna play Mages' Contest.
Everyone else: What the hell is this card?
B: *explains*
A: Okay so you start with 1?
B: Yeah so what do you bid?
A: Uh.... 5?
B: 39.

Mode: If you took control of an opponent and cast it during their turn you can make them bid 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 life.
also: phyrexian unlife, bid a zillion.
