Once upon a time these weren't that bad!
But over the years magic has provided more and better colour fixing and now they're kinda crappy.
OTOH: In many decks this will be just as good as a darksteel ingot spectral searchlight or other 5 colour mana source.

Funny, how in the early days of MTG mana accel was incredible, then it was made weak, and now getting better again. This ain't bad. But there are better cards. In a red black deck, I'd probably still play it, because I like old card frames.

Ingot: *BAM* *BAM* OPEN UP. I NEED A WORD WITH YOU.
Cameo Family: OH SH*T RUN OH GOD WE CAN'T REPEL INDESTRUCTIBILITY OF THAT MAGNITUDE.

Darksteel Ingot would like to have a word with this card.

Let's start with the overall assumption that the original moxes are out.
If you need just mana you can almost always use Fellwar Stone. If you have deck that steals permanents then FS is the way to go as you might need your opponents mana color to activate the abilities of the stolen permanents. If you have LD deck then forget FS.
Then if you don't mind card disadvantage Chrome Mox and Mox Diamond are what you need. If you are heavy on artifacts Mox Opal is good.

If your only running those two colors, this is equal to manalith, baring unique situations where you would need other colors because of something an opponent does.
Also you could run alongside manalith.

Rakdos Signet
Yeah, we all know that this card is pretty much outclassed. Oh well, still has some use in an R/B EDH deck. Coming into play tapped still sucks, though.
