Very removal resistant, and burn resistant just because people are less likely going to run burn spells in EDH.

It reminds me the Shishigami at the end of the movie Mononoke Hime...
5/5 for this reason alone... I've not played it yet, but it's in my favourite wedge, has my favourite protection (from white... Jeez, I hate white!), with a discount ability that it's always nice... How can't I love it? The only wedge General that I could love more is Riku! Why I didn't buy one of those deck?

Well good, I was waiting for a chance to run my foil copy of hamletback goliath! I went with Hydras and other X-cost creatures work well since they are never a dead draw (primordial hydra, vastwood hydra, etc.). Creatures with graft help him out as well (sporeback troll). The Theros block has been kind to Animar, with the gods and archetype cycles (Xenagos, god of revels, archetype of aggression, etc.). Big colorless guys are good cause they eventually become free, wheel of fortune/jace's archivist is a deathblow after you've just pooped out a handful of creatures... nullstone gargoyle, Garruk's Horde, Urabrask the Hidden, Steel Hellkite, Soul of the Harvest, Sages of the Anima, Kalonia... (see all)

Why are you crying, Animar? Is it because you're so freaking powerful???
The two protections just push this over the top. I'm really not sure why they were necessary.
