I... guess all the useful bits rotted away.

im conflicted about this card. i mean its a 4 drop for 5/1 when you see the 5 your like YES! then you see the 1 and your like *sigh* i think this card can be useful in all formats if you use 5 mans instead and equip with tainted srike you could be doing some serious poison damage, but to be honest if i had five mana, id rather drop two plague stingers and a tainted strike on one for 3 in the air rather than a 6/1 getting killed by any blocking creature ever. if you are blocked you are dead , and that doesnt appeal to me. 3/5

This guy can be really good if put in the right zombie deck. Think about all the zombie buffer's in standard right now -
Diregraf Captain
Cemetery Reaper
Adaptive Automaton
Mikaeus, The Unhallowed
If you have just one of each of those on the field, then Rotting Fensnake suddenly becomes a 9/5 for 4 mana(!) and can only get better. Chances are by the time you have 4 mana to spend, you will already have at least one of the buffers on the field. With Havengul Lich out, it doesn't even matter if it dies either, since you can simply recast it if you have the mana, and Rooftop Storm makes this combo even better because you can cast it for free! Artful Dodge ensures that the fensnake will always deal damage to the opponent, and Vapor Snag should be your removal of choice if all else fails.
Combine a few more cards like auto... (see all)

Dying to Guardian Lions, another bad card, is not a place you want to be.

I personally find that this card can get very scary in an Exalted deck. I built an Exalted deck recently and added Rotting Fensnake to it, but I have not had a chance to test it out yet. Just think: with six Exalted permanents on the field, this creature would have some serious power; enough maybe to take down an Eldrazi.
