Potentially the most powerful uncommon in the set.

This + Stuffy Doll = Evil. Pure, unadulterated evil.

I use her in my Momir Vig EDH. I can tutor her up as soon as I play a green or green/blue creature and bond her to Momir, 'cause he's kinda fragile.

Auto-include for a blue EDH with a combo general- another Champion's Helm or Whispersilk Cloak is never bad in a singleton format.

Hilariously bad art for this card - apparently no one gave Anthony Palumbo the memo that Innistrad block was supposed to be gothic-themed, not spiked plate mail and anime hair themed. Elgaud Shieldmate looks totally out of place beside any other card in this set.
In terms of power, at 3U it costs just too much. It's almost always terrible played on its own, or when you're just giving hexproof to a creature you don't really care about. The fact that it's sometimes excellent is marginal, since it requires you to already have a great threat out that your opponent would be able to deal with, were it not for the Shieldmate. Not actually as useful as it seems.
Ultimately, I think it should have been a 2/2 and been costed at 1UU.
