Cool flavor text, reminds me of that one quote from Fight Club ... how did it go ... "Only when you have lost everything are you free to do anything" ? Something like that.

Very expensive, and being forced to tap out is a powerful drawback even without mana burn. Counterless control can use it at some expense, but mostly not very good.

"Spur Grappler and Well of Discovery are better, since you can basically tap all of your lands for free now." -Mark Gottlieb
I think this makes this card much better! Now I can draw many extra cards.

Useful with Quest for Renewal and a few mana-creatures. Useful with just a few mana-creatures for that matter.

Not out of place in a big, aggressive green deck that can rack up a lot of mana (with elves, say) but will still tap out its few lands each turn. If you can produce six mana but only have three forests, it's not hard to tap out.

{6} and anti-control synergy seems a bit much for meagre card draw. I'd rather work around something like Howling Mine than lose my instant speed tricks. I need thems instants speeds.

It's pretty much a second Staff of Nin in EDH 4/5
