I think the super high rating on this card is mostly due to that fantastic art. And rightly so.

+5 for the art alone

Probably the most badass (<- I hate you, censor) card art in the game, but sadly he's very lukewarm.
A 2-drop hybrid for 2/2 is nice if not par. Black and White is promising. No tap to activate abilities, awesome. Abilities are minor, yet versatile, excellent. Abilities are 3-cost each... not cool.
There are insanely better things to spend 3 mana on, especially when the damage ability damages you too, you're forced to use the healing ability, a total cost of 6, to break even on a 1 sap, which you can get with other 1-drops.
This desperately needs to be broken, and not by Training Grounds.
Can technically win you the game with Bloom Tender + Umbral Mantle + 1 other colored permanent, but there have to be better, more practical, non-blue dependent combos.

Saying the obvious here, but it combos with infinite mana.
Gold Myr, Leaden Myr, 2 Myr Galvanizers, game.
The card's abilities are priced right, any lower and it would have been too easy to break, making playing it rather unfun. The art, as said, is absolutely beautiful. One of the reasons I wish that I had been playing during Ravnica..

To break this use Training Grounds and Cabal Coffers.

One of my favorite artworks on any magic card, but there were unfortunately much better guild mages out there.

Wicked-looking card. This should be what the next Assassin's Creed looks like (set in Russia)
