Anyone think this has anything to with Cruel Ultimatum because of their flavor texts?

What the hell's an ORC? And all I'm getting from Calliope is a muse of epic poetry

Ah, I remember when I first started playing MtG. The group of friends that I played with always used this on their opponents. Since I had some experience in other tcgs, I realized the importance of card advantage more than them and when I borrowed one of my friend's decks with this in it I cast it on myself. One of my friends immediately made a face and said something to the effect of, "Why would you want to damage yourself?" and the other said, "Wait...that could actually be a good idea, if you needed more cards..." Now the second runs 4 of these in his mono-black deck and has probably won several games through the card advantage it offers him.

It's not bad, 1 mana per card is pretty good, and the life loss is mostly negligible. The ability to finish off an opponent is just gravy.
