@TheAdversary
Still, it is nice to have something that has not requirements at all. This still isn't as good as Sever the Bloodline, and the cost makes this almost impossible to put in despite its lack of restrictions. But I just love matches with my Zombie constructed deck when I find out the opponent put a multiple copies of Doom Blade and Victim of Night in their deck.
A little bit of tweaking and this might actually be playable; 1 less cost, as an instant would do it for me at least.

There is so much better creature removal in standard right now: Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, Victim of Night, Rebuke. Even pseudo-removal like Claustrophobia and Pacifism outshine this. And did they really have to make it a sorcery?

@ThisisSakon Nope not 4 in any format. Zhou Yu, Chief Commander has 8 in legacy, Auriok Survivors has 6 in Standard and Hanweir Watchkeep has 5 in Block.
Although your point is still reasonably vaild. :P Though this is meant to be limited jank.

Latest entry from the template 5-mana common mono-black sorceries that can destroy black creatures and then maybe get a bonus. Weed Strangle did this better and had a pseudo-scry attached. Also compare with Gloomlance and Spread the Sickness.

Meh.
This card would be even less well received if Limited formats didn't exist.
At that cost and sorcery speed, this is too ridiculous to use in any constructed format
(maybe EDH if you just really need another kill spell?).
Vastly inferior to Sever the Bloodline, from the same block.
I get that it's common and shouldn't be as good,
but look at Tragic Slip and tell me this isn't garbage in the same set, rarity, and color.
@NoobOfLore- you are forgetting cards that let you destroy *any* permanent, or exile creatures.
Off the top of my head, this is utter trash compared to Vindicate, Maelstrom Pulse, Mortify, Putrefy, Wrecking Ball, Unmake, and the Standard-legal Beast Within and Sever the Bloodline, which, as I mentioned before, is from the same block, costs 1 less, EXILES, and can p... (see all)

If no other removal spells are available in draft/sealed, this card might see use, but when you have Doom Blade, Go For the Throat, Dismember, or Victim of the Night, you can do better.

Unconditional Lifegain, Lower CMC, Anti-Regeneration clause... So many ways to make this card not THAT bad... and yet it sees print as... this abomination.

Too expensive, should have at least made it an instant
Though the art is rather...disturbing. The Red Skull must have been revived

@ blindthrall
I agree, but we can't all have what we want.
if we always got the cards that could fit into every format, we'd just be playing 4 sets of Magic 2012 in each block and whatnot: That's the set where standard, normal, "can be put into many decks" kind of cards come from. It's the base which a block uses to support their own strategies and styles.
Mind you, This is in no rights a good card, and it shouldn't have had such a high CMC. 4 may have been acceptable.
1/5.

This is a great limited card. Fantastic power level for a common.
Removal in Dark Ascension and Innistrad is more expensive, but that doesn't depower it for the limited crowd. This often will ditch a huge threat, and be worth every bit of 5 mana.
