When you don't curve out after a mull to 4, putting this on the battlefield on turn 3 is just gravy. Doesn't die to red removal & sweepers in standard. Doesn't die to abrupt decay. I think this body is very well positioned as a 4 drop in the current meta imo. It's not huntmaster of the fells or obstinate baloth. I think this is a sufficient follow up after a turn 2 loxodon smiter. This card also helps to prevent flooding, just put it on an arbor elf and make a 6/6 mana dork! I know it's vulnerable to unsummon we're talking about when your hand is forest, forest, swamp, you'll spend whatever to avoid flooding.

4.25/5 because, it's good early, mid, and late game. It's good on and off the curve. I just don't think it's as outstanding as the other 4 drops in the format though. :\

And on a less serious note, I think it's kinda cute :3 I mean just look at i... (see all)

When I cracked open my first Magic cards (Golgari event deck), I spent more time obsessing about getting more of these than I did Thragtusk. I don't know if I could ever build a green deck without at least considering this beastly beetle.

The art is also solid.

Man is this card ever fun to play.

From a guild flavor perspective, Scavenge is everything Dredge wasn't. Really, Scavenge is the only thing that gives Dredge a powerful Golgari feel; Dredging into Salvage fodder makes flavor sense in a way that Dredging for Narcomoebas and Flame-Kin Zealot doesn't. It's like a flavor ret-con.

Next I'm going to put him in a Simic deck and pretend he's a Fungus Insect Mutant. :)

This is a 5/5 for 4 mana. I can't think of anything with better stats except maybe Leatherback Baloth.

4/5 Efficient beater with a nice curving ability onto your 5 drop if he eats removal.

Really good card here. Fits a curve very nicely. Turn 4 drop him, turn 5 drop a big trample creature and turn 6 you can scavenge for a really big trample creature. I wish people (in this case deep_shadow) would shut up aboutJuzam Djinn and powercreep. If WOTC stuck to the same powercurve in every set it would be extremely boring, and new sets would be just like the old ones, so even if you still wanted to play the game, there would be NO reason to buy new sets whatsoever because x card would be just like y card which, itself is a copy of z card.
On top of that, Green has historically held the cheap, efficient big creatures- (Tarmogoyf,Thragtusk,Force of Nature and so on). If this were a 5/5 for 2BlackBlack your argument might have some validity to it.

And I invite you, if you think there is a problem with power creep in this game, give Yugioh a try, it's MUCH worse.

A shout out to everyone who downs this 5\5 for 2GG, I run a set in my R\G aggro and being able to ramp, drop this turn 3 and by turn 4 you could possibly be looking at a 10/10 double striking trampler. Nothing not to love about this cheap fatty. The combos are infinite!! And I've put the beat down on many a hell rider with this.

I really like Scavenge because it's a big "Screw You" to removal.
Sure, I'm getting a 5/5 for 4, and you want to get rid of it. Go ahead. It'll still be of use to me.

At half a dollar, this thing is amazing for somewhat effective budget decks.
