He's only really good in standard; in almost any other format, it's worth it to have a couple Essence Harvests instead.

If you splash some Dimir/Mill cards in your Golgari deck, this and Consuming Aberration are a great finisher.

@ spiney please look up what the word 'misnomer' means, and what do you mean by 'evasively' draining life? That adverb doesn't make sense in that context at all. You were right about Golgari getting better, though. I'm thinking of building BlackGreen Ravnica themed EDH, now, and I'm stuck between using Varolz or Jarad as my commander.
