uh... Basilisk Collar ?
seriously - this is a pinger, in Black!
sure, it costs more than a prodigal, and has a cost to activate... but how many of these kind of guys can you find?

Taps down the creature making it unavailable to attack or use its tap abilities, and has the added benefit of killing creatures with 1 toughness or more if you have some way to boost his power.

Endless Scream can have this guy putting a hurt on other people's creatures, but a solution for him is still a ping away. Seems expensive, but this was from when Dark Ritual ruled the world.
Versatile creature though - can be used as a pinger, a control creature or both.

It's redeeming characteristic is that it taps the creature it targets. 3/5. I think it is more useful than it is given credit for. and yes it was a staple of black decks of the time, it actually rocked.

I actually like this card and have played it quite a lot. It's not a good card but fun. It might be useful with Sinister Strength.

only if this didnt have to tap! its not great, and i've almost never used it, but paried with newer enchanments like beastmasters ascention, its not bad. then it would be a 6/6. But as a 1/1 its not great unless your opponet has one awsome blocker that you need to tap.
