I totally agree, this card is not work the headache. This was the case with Mirage, either they were good or not good at all. There seemed to be very little in between in the Mirage set and this card was truly not so good 1.0.

So in the best case, this card gains you 5 life and makes your opponent lose 5 life, which would be nice for 5 mana.
Still, if your opponent has same or less life than you, you don't want to play it. If he got only 1 to 3 life more than you, than this card ain't worth it. And if he got 6 or more life more than you, you can't play it. In other words, most of the time you can't play the card, don't want to play the card, or it's not worth the mana. Of course you can try to mana burn yourself to exactly 5 life below your opponents life, but this hardly makes this card any better.

Hmm... it seems that this has been errat'd to be able to exchange negative life totals. Too bad it's still useless, even if you were at negative 1 life and still living and your opponent at 1 to 4 life, you might as well just play another color and use a lava axe to finish off your opponent. Stupid card for 5 mana.

Looking at it the first time I thought it said a difference of 15 life an wondered why it was rated so low. Know that I know the truth I wonder no longer.

The fact that this is a sorcery hobbles its already rather underwhelming usefulness. If it was instant, at least you could play it to buy a turn in combat or something. But as it is, it is extremely narrow and too expensive for its best-case scenario.
