I actually i prefer the dark ascension art better. I guess its because I don't like how this art look in foil and there no non foil printing of it. Well that and the demonic photo-bomb of course.

Short answer: yes. If his last ability is activated and it targets at least one permanent you control, you may counter it with Not of This World. The entire ability will be countered (nothing will be destroyed or returned to the battlefield) and the cost will already have been paid (-6 loyalty counters).

His -2 effect is seriously interesting and powerful; turns Lingering Souls into 8 flying power for 5 mana. In a lot of ways it's worth 2-mana or less; but the fact you can never get rid of it is what balances things out if they don't wax him. That said; getting a 2/1 lifelinker every turn is worth 1-2 mana as well.

I bought one because he looks like my brother in this art, which I find immensely amusing, but it turns out that he's also pretty good. Damn it... Now I might have to make a vampire deck and this jerk just happens to sparkle. Stupid foils... 5/5

I have to agree, even in a story line context, The battle of Sorin vs Tibalt is pretty one sided. The World's oldest living Vampire, who is capable of creating a diety, versus some annoying jerk who was eventually granted minor demonic superpowers.
