@KiribatiOmega (Myself)
I've just read the detailed rules for the Simic Manipulator - and I was wrong. The ability to steal compares the number of counters vs power twice: once when it is cast, and again when it resolves.
However, the Aetherling could had been stolen if I had cast the Manipulator's ability followed by a Turn to Frog.

unlike most people thinks, it is not as good as Morphling. 1 mana extra casting cost is huge given how faster game is these days. plus coming back at the end of the turn is pretty mediocre, especially against fast decks. this card is a typical "more win" card which makes you win game easily if you are ahead and sits and watches if you are behind.

He has 6 abilities when you take into account that the first ability basically reads: "U: Abuse target ETB trigger, Abuse target LTB trigger, and untap Aetherling."

Harder to kill than Morohling, but also isn't as easy to enchant/equip due to the exile. In many cases, Morphling's ability to untap oneself is what sets him aside from the rest, easier to combo with more cards.

Alright so I am a bit confused on the rulings. In one case it says it will return to the battlefield and also says that it will not return in the second sentence. This seems to be in conflict... perhaps needs to be better explained or corrected.

"Ætherling’s first ability will return it to the battlefield only if that ability also exiled it. If Ætherling left the battlefield in response to that ability, it won’t return, even if it was exiled by another spell or ability."

@Scythan666

If you used his first ability, and then he was exiled with something else, say Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares, he wouldn't return to the battlefield.

It would've just been simpler if it said that he only returns if he's exiled with his own ability.

If you activate the 3rd and 4th ability, you can use your mana without the risk of actually changing anything.

i still think this is one of the jewels of the set. i don't think it is strictly worse than morphling because he can do some things morphling can't such as survive wrath of god and chum-block lifelink and deathtouch creatures. six mana is a lot but for a finisher in a control deck it is a fair trade.
