I actually like it maybe a little more than Garruk's Companion. The companion dies to all the two-power first strikers that are out there (and there are a LOT), but our new Tusker friend just crushes them. Trample is easy to come by in mono-green, which is where this guy will be played.

Lame... takes away the specialness of Watchwolf. No reason to give mono-green this cmc/pt ratio, especially when red still doesn't have a bear and most of the vanilla commons in this set are underpowered.

They could at least keep Searing Spear in the set when printing this. We've got Shock and no way to deal with the beast.

I don't think Garruk's Companion is better as trample is just so easy to achieve in Green. In fact, Garruk Wildspeaker grants trample with his ultimate and will be better protected by a 3/3 if you use his +1 ability.

Definitely awesome in Limited. 3/5 by itself. 4/5 in combo decks.

I give it a 4.
If you think about it there is nothing better in standard.

Good enough for limited as long as you are playing a heavy green/mono green deck, but strangleroot geist is so much better for constructed.

Green already has a better two-drop in Garruk's Companion. The only deck you would rather use this one in are Muraganda Petroglyphs decks, and those are going to be even more fun with this card!
EDIT: Good thing to see I sparked some debate! I actually never thought myself that the Companion is better than the Tusker, I just said that to be a Devil's Advocate. ;)

There will not and probably should not ever be a better 2-drop Vanilla.
