Vigilance, lifelink, and high enough toughness are synergistic. Decent enough.

Pillarfield Ox

I think Vigilance and Lifelink are worth one extra mana.
Seraph of Dawn is probably the better choice, but vigiliance can be better than flying.

Decent card. Especially if you have Archangel of Thune.

This card really solidified my board in a recent draft and allowed me to go all out with my slivers. It isn't a 5 mana bomb but it frees you up to do things when it comes out and gives you bonus life. The 4 toughness shouldn't be underestimated as far as survival goes added to which it isn't really threatening enough to waste removal on.
A solid common in a limited deck with a lot of white.

Converting Flying to Vigilance shouldn't add 1, and Seraph of Dawn wasn't exactly well received guys. And SHE was in a tribal themed block.

If you remember, one of the loose rules wizards follows for common and uncommon is that those cards should be able to win the game on their own. You know, things like Kalonian Hydra that if not hit by a doom blade or Chandra's Outrage immediately will win the game. Well, unfortunately Dawnstrike Paladin suffers from that. At uncommon she may have had an extra point of power. But at rare? I could see her having her having one extra toughness or being a bit cheaper.

By no means is she a bad card though. A pillarfield ox does great in limited, a pillarfield ox that can go on the offensive for free and gets you 2 life each turn is fantastic. She can stabilize your field on her own, but will do so easily with a Divine Favour. Even if you happen to have Archangel of Thune in your pool, these two synergise so well and the format is so slow it's very much worth running all your dawnstrike ... (see all)

Seraph of Dawn was also admitted to be 'pushing it'. This lies comfortably in between the spaces of "Fair" and "Really Good". It's no shame if you draft it, and if you decide you like the art or typeline enough to try it in Constructed, you might not get laughed at very hard if you have good support cards and a real plan.

Seraph of Dawn

Is Vigilance really worth one more mana than flying?

This low rating really is underestimating the power of this card in a knight deck.

The lesson I learned and adopted is to never underestimate a knight deck or underrate some knight, especially when you reach mid game, have your Knight Exemplars and Kinsbaile Cavaliers out there, and then drop this thing ...

Trust me this card is at least a 4/5.

Knight Decks are agro by nature ... this is a solid blocker and attacker that can cover your hind quarters when you go all out.
