This is the card that Archangel's Light was supposed to be. Development nixed it at the last moment, after discovering some broken interaction and fearing that it didn't cost enough.

I guess further playtesting determined it actually cost too much, since they've reduced the cost by 1. But then again, we don't have Lingering Souls around anymore - I bet that's what broke it. :)

Devout Invocation doesn't target anything so Battlefield Thaumaturge doesn't actually have any effect. If it said "...tap any number of target creatures..." then there would be some synergy but sadly that isn't the case.
