Now I prefer Tithe Drinker, but this is mono-black and also still a damn good card.

Trades with a bear and heals the life that a bear attack would lose.

This card should be in every core set. I always include it in black "teach someone to play M:tG" decks.

{1}{B} used to buy you 1/1 spellshapers at common. Now it buys you tribal-relevant 2/1 Lifelinkers.
Black often has bad P/T mana deals in it.
This isn't one of them.
(though admittedly it's the 'Tribal relevant' that forces me to say it's actually better than a bear- because of how much tribal effects can make all kinds of amazing things happen for low-end creatures. Even without being a Vampire, it is still definitely as good as a Bear, and a Bear is Fair.)

Ashley Wood hasn't illustrated a lot of Magic cards. This one is especially odd. Most of it is blacked out, and you can pretty much only make out an ugly face, cleavage, a thigh, and one hand. I really can't examine it further because I've never seen a bigger version of this picture. I don't know what to make of it.

Unspeakable symbol is a fun casual play. If they block, you pump until you win, and you get make 2+1/3rd of that pump the first time.
