Analyzing in a vacuum. Body equal to cmc and a very good protection ability. 4 toughness puts him out of lightning bolt range and he doesnt die to doom blade.
On your first swing with him, you can threaten to make him an 8/8. Eight freaking eight. That alone is either pseudo evasion or pseudo removal, depending if your opponent is willing to get hit. If they choose not to block you are free to cast something else or pay 4 for 4 extra damage. If you hit eight mana, you can beef him up to 16/16.
Basically its a very efficient card and it has a built in win condition as well. A basic green beatdown deck could run x4 of this and it would be a strong backbone.
