Tidbit on how the kraken--from NORSE legend--showed up in "Clash of the Titans". The makers of the film originally knew the word only from Tennyson's poem, and thought he made the term up himself. So, they decided to borrow it for their sui generis sea horror.
I can understand why they didn't use Ketos (a little close to "cetacean"), but given how the kraken was billed as the last remaining Titan, I'm surprised they didn't use Polybotes. Well, I take that back--Polybotes was a Gigas, and the Gigantomachia took place AFTER the Medusa situation (Herakles, one of the combatants against the Gigantes, was a descendant of Perseus). Still, one of the details of Polybotes was that Poseidon stopped him by trapping him under the island of Nisyros. Considering where the kraken was released from, and that the Gigantes were the half-brothers of the Titanes (they had the same mother, Gaia), Polybotes would have been an apt name despite appearing far earlier than he should have.

Now that we know Kiora's story, I give this 5/5 because of the flavor. Con5cripting Theran sea monsters to fight the Eldrazi? Guess who has an ability that can lock down Emrakul. That's right. This guy.
