And here we see Deathgaze Cockatrice's mirror. Again, strictly worse in three ways to Vampire Nighthawk, but still a 3.5/5.

Jesus that's terrifying. Lifelink is an ability that's a lot better than it works, and any flyer in black is helpful. Also nice if you want to build up devotion to black.

Also, I just noticed it's two Dagerdrone Imps stapled together

I saw this card spoiled just after I read the column about how devotion was supposed to change strict upgrades (which you can read here: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/rc/263 ). When I saw this, it didn't make sense why this doesn't cost BlackBlackBlackBlack or something. I do know Vampire Nighthawk is too powerful to remain in standard, but this just feels like a missed opportunity for mono black synergy. 0.5/5.
