Somewhat less appealing than Thundermaw Hellkite as an aggro curve topper, but every bit as good in midrange.

Playability in standard is inversely proportional to the occurence of Prognostic Sphinx and Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, and proportional to the occurence of Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Archangel of Thune.

Stormbreath descending, winter unending. Stormbreath departing, summer is starting.

@StyxTBeuford - slight correction. Supreme Verdict still kills this. Protection does not prevent destroy effects, just targeting and damage.

I don't get the hype about the card. Don't get me wrong, it's good, really good, but as I am typing this it is the third most expensive card in the set coming around 23 dollars. Let me do a little comparison. Hypersonic Dragon. some converted mana cost (yes more problematic with the colors, but I doubt this is too much of an issue if people wanted) Same base stats, 4/4 haste flying. This guys has the monstrosity ability which looks nice though it seems most people doubt it will be heavily in use in competitive play. Mr hypersonic has that instant speed sorcery thing which probably is nice but not really game changing. Guess options are always a good thing anyhow for both of them.

Which leaves the protection from white. Which means protection from white right now is the difference from a card that is worth 23 dollars and one that can be found for under fifty cents, since both are available for standard.

I don't play competitively, so it's probably that, bu... (see all)

@grynning
Divine Verdict, does target an attacking or blocking creature...
"Destroy target attacking or blocking creature."
Just wanna point this out to you, that you're dead wrong. Since verdict "targets" the creature, it's immune to it. Now Wrath of God, sure, that can still kill it.

Bit late on getting my fix of Theros, but it was worth it. Pulled a foil yesterday along with quite a lucky collection of other mythics: Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Master of Waves, Purphoros, God, and Underworld Cerberus.

Edit: Also, now that I've gotten to use him a bit, if you have the mana and can get away with it (pretty big "if," I admit) Stormbreath here is pretty fun with his monstrosity and Illusionist's Bracers. A 10/10 flying with pro-white and does damage to each opponent equal to double their hand? Just gravy.

"...Monsters like none have seen before!"

Heliod this thing has been on Theros for years. Purphoros even told about that one time he charged his hammer using its breath and had a lightning sparring match with Keranos. The only reason you've agreed with the rest of the multiverse that it is actually a thing is because Thassa Trait Doctoring'd you. I still can't believe she even managed to find a practical use for that spell, let alone have it readily available.

Of course this card is good. It's a dragon that shoots lightning out of it's mouth!
