This appears to be part of a flavor cycle where we see UBR, the nonheroic colors of the previous sets get a traditional hero (ie. +1/+1 counter per trigger). This guy, Satyr Hoplite and War-wing Siren.

A Heroic creature (or anti-heroic, in this case) that gets +1/+1 counters works pretty well with the Ordeals.
Ensures two +1/+1 counters from one Ordeal in your turn, and makes it easier to get the third one.
It even allows the Ordeals to go off without your opponent being able to respond if you cast it when he's tapped out and your Hoplite already had a counter on it from something else.
The second triggered ability should be somewhat useful in limited.
Too bad it won't 'drain' the counters — that would be awesome.

Used this thing (or had it used on me) recently in several draft games, and can be very mean in-set. 1v1 in particular, he's excellent at locking down all the Heroic and other counter based threats this set produces long enough for you to establish your closers. In multi-games (team or otherwise) my impression is that he's less useful due to the sheer quantity of threats he needs to respond to (much like how deathtouch/ping strategies can be devastating in 1v1 games, but may fall apart when there's too much stuff to ping). As mentioned previously, will probably be really good with Ordeals, as well as Hidden Strings, ect... Also got off a Solidarity of Heroes at one point, which was just cruel.
