There are two better dragons in this block alone, but this is still pretty cool.

Seems great, but I would keep this in mono-red. 7 mountains to play him, which gets you a 5/5 flyer and 7 damage to a creature or player? Nice. Can annihilate a flyer that wants to contest him in the skies, or simply kill a player for good. And if that seven damage doesn't kill someone, this dragon can finish the job in a couple turns. Pretty good dragon here.

Best Dragon in the block, hands down, and one of my favorite cards in the set.
Of course, this is speaking from the perspective of a Zirilan of the Claw EDH deck. Gonna be about 15 damage on average for three mana, followed by a swing for five.

Forgestoker Dragon and obviously Stormbreath Dragon are better, but still pretty cool.

While at first he may not seem like an extremely competitive pick, think for a moment about the idea of what cards we all sometimes consider good. Anything that requires more than a turn to get the most out of is considered sub-par, at least if something similar to it exists with faster effects. Forgestoker Dragon doesn't do anything the turn he resolves. Yeah hes cheaper but he sits there as a target for a turn. I'll concede that Stormbreath Dragon is better, but again he usually a "one-turn" kinda card. Maybe Spawn of Thraxes here is a 3-star card, but I do have a soft spot for him, partially because he was my best win-con at draft, but more so because he has potential to be a strong card in a properly built deck i.e. pure-red mid-late range, if that is even a thing.

Finally, after 17 years Fire Dragon has a brother. The funny thing is that I bought Fire dragon for my monored EDH deck at a high price, and then 1 week later Spawn of Thraxes came out lol.

I'm not particularly fond of this guy but his promo art is amazing, so kudos to the artist.

And, much like Geralf, Gissa, and Massacre Girl, Thraxes slips off into the "only-mentioned" category.

Because every Magic set needs a mono-Red dragon.
