I'd say that his ability only checks once when declaring as a target.
Just take a look at Aladdin - in his rulings the appropriate case is explained. Thus here it should be the say way the rulings work.
so yeah - use it with Amoeboid Changeling or Ego Erasure or any other thing that removes creature types for one turn.
