Is it just me or does he look like he's on concert, like, pointing to some random person in the audience and saying "THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!"
But now it goes well with Empty the Warrens and Mana Echoes. Combo those two with a bunch of goblins and a couple spells that give you tokens, play Empty the Warrens, Mana Echoes give you a bunch of mana, flip this. Or, do what I did. Use Krenko, Mob Boss (For now he is in existence) a few times, Battle Hymn, (Or better yet Brightstone Ritual) use it on Warbreaker here.

No, the morph isn't cost effective, but it is a mana-sink, and the card itself is a 1/1 for 1 so it's not a real waste to have one. The morph is just a little something to do if you draw it late game.

This is usually a one-man-army in a Goblin EDH deck. Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Gauntlet of Might and Extraplanar Lens gives you tonnes of mana to spend.

This card is amazing in that it's basically the one morph creature that targeting with Break Open is a good thing.

I love it when the oracle rulings have some personality. For example with this card the oracle is pretty much calling you an idiot as politely as possible if you're not able to figure out the X cost.

I can't stop giggling at the thought of a mass of goblins exploding from the morph husk like a piñata.

pay 3 and get one token. pay 5 and get 2. pay 7 and get 3.
Nope, it just isn't cost effective at all.

It's not meant to be efficient, it's meant to be a place to sink your excess mana after you've burned out your hand.
